Placing the implant the same day
In selected cases, the implant can be placed in the same visit as the extraction, rather than waiting for the socket to heal. The tooth is removed, the site is prepared, and the implant is positioned in the bone immediately.
What makes a case suitable
The decision rests on what is found at the site. There must be enough healthy bone to hold the implant firmly from the start, and no active infection around the tooth being removed. A 3D scan taken beforehand shows the bone volume available; the final assessment is made during surgery.
What it changes for the patient
Immediate placement means one surgical procedure instead of two, and a shorter overall course of treatment. Where conditions are not favourable, placing the implant later is the safer choice, and that judgement is made case by case rather than as a general rule.
