The position of the implant, the shape of the crown and the contour of the gum around it are decided before surgery, from a 3D scan and an assessment of the neighbouring teeth. Colour, translucency and proportion are matched to what is already in the mouth.
A temporary restoration is usually fitted so the gap is not visible while the implant integrates with the bone. The definitive crown is placed once healing is complete and the gum has settled into its final shape.
