What the appointment involves

- AirFlow. The powder jet removes plaque and the staining left by tea, coffee and tobacco, reaching the pits and grooves of the chewing surfaces and the spaces between the teeth that a brush passes over.
- Ultrasonic scaling. A Piezon instrument removes the tartar that remains, adjusting its power to the deposit it meets rather than working at one fixed setting, which keeps the sensation milder.

Aftercare
The gums may feel tender and the teeth briefly more sensitive to cold, and this settles. Staining returns with what the teeth are exposed to, so tea, coffee and tobacco will mark them again over time. Daily brushing and cleaning between the teeth is what holds the result between appointments.
